How Care ViraSoothe Works.
The Science Behind OsmoCare Technology

Care ViraSoothe is a novel patented formulation comprising a synergistic blend of glycerol and vicinal diol in a clathrate cage structure.

The product works by drawing water to the surface of the skin. As this evaporates, it gives a localised cooling effect, which in turn provides symptomatic relief of the pruritis associated with chickenpox. The product also provides enhanced skin moisturisation and an associated soothing effect.

The OsmoCare formulation has 3 essential components:

  • Glycerol (glycerine) is commonly used in skin products because of its humectant and soothing properties. It works osmotically, drawing water to the skin surface and providing localised moisturisation and evaporative cooling. On its own, the benefits of glycerol can be transient and in high concentrations it can leave a sticky and unpleasant feeling to the skin.
  • Consequently, Care ViraSoothe combines glycerol with a vicinal diol* which provides a synergistic effect, improving the humectancy and cosmetic acceptability whilst also negating the need for a traditional preservative. Being preservative-free is an additional benefit of the Care ViraSoothe formulation, which is especially relevant to sensitive skin conditions.
  • Care ViraSoothe contains a polyacrylate clathrate. This provides a molecular cage structure which encloses the osmotic blend, keeping it localised, allowing the gel to absorb water. The gel loses the water by evaporation over a prolonged period without the ingredients being absorbed, dispersed or even drying out.

*A diol or glycol is a chemical compound containing two hydroxyl groups
(-OH groups). Vicinal diols have hydroxyl groups attached to adjacent atoms.
